Troubleshooting Automatchic Vision
Measure failed
Whenever the device informs you 'Measure failed', it's advised to first check whether the device itself works properly, please perform a check on the green tile and run a diagnostics check.
If these tests pass, most likely the error was the result of user operation.
Diagnostic check failed
During the self-diagnostic a lot of different things are being checked. So it is important to watch, where exactly the issues occur. In many cases, simply the cleaning of the green and white tiles can help to pass the check.
A description for correct cleaning can also be found in the user manual on page 40. If error persists, device needs to be sent in for Service.
High current motor error
High motor current always indicates internal mechanical frictions. The instrument needs to be sent back to the closest BYK-Gardner Service Point.
Device will not power on
When an AMV will not power on, the internal battery is completely discharged. Try to charge the AMV for a few hours to solve this issue. If the AMV is still not powering on after this, the battery is most likely defective and needs to be replaced in closest BYK-Gardner Service Point.
Real time clock issue
The instrument lost the memory of date and clock. The reason could be that the battery was close to empty and not charged. Normally this is avoided by a warning message. Normally the issue can be resolved with the help of this tool. Alternatively it could be resolved by reinstalling the firmware.
If the above two steps do not resolve the issue, the instrument needs to be sent back to the closest BYK-Gardner Service Point.
Ambient light error
Please check the light sealing rubber ring at the bottom of the instrument. If this ring is o.k. and perfect in position, please check if dust is inside the instrument and use compressed, clean, oil-free air to remove it. Should these two measures not solve the issue, then it may be an electronic or LED problem and the Instrument needs Service.
For detailed instructions on how to clean or change a light protection ring, refer to user manual on pager 41
Calibration failed
This problem usually appears if standards are dirty and/or the instrument optics became dirty over time. First, please try and clean the standards. A description for correct cleaning can also be found in the user manual on page 40. Please always clean both (white and green) tiles and then measure both tiles. If error persists, device needs to be sent in for Service.
It these measures are not solving the issue, then we have to assume other reasons, like failure of electronic parts or LEDs. If an LED has changed its output, the instrument must be calibrated. In such cases, the instrument needs to be sent back to the closest BYK-Gardner Service Point.
Pin stuck
In case that the pins got stuck due to paint residues: Please remove the rubber covers from the pins and carefully clean the covers with e.g. ethanol. It is important that the covers are cleaned separately in order to make sure that no solvent runs into the instrument.
In all other cases: The device needs to be send to Service.

The 15 AMV2 Prototypes that need to be updated as described below have the following serial numbers:
SN2002058
SN2002059
SN2002064
SN2002065
SN2002068
SN2002077
SN2002085
SN2002087
SN2002088
SN2002091
SN2002092
SN2002093
SN2002095
SN2002099
SN2002102
If your serial number is not on the list? Then please use this manual to update your AMV2.
First download below files at the bottom of this manual and unpack them:
- 20231222_AMV2_FW_1_1_0_26256.zip
- 20230711_AMV2_SetDateTime.zip
Make sure that all applications are closed that connect to the Automatchic Vision (Instrument Manager, Color Manager) and run the firmware upgrade by double clicking the executable: Automatchic Vision 2_F7_CompletePackage_1_1_0_26256.exe
In the window that appears check the box of the connected device and click 'Start Update'.
Go here when the Automatchic Vision firmware updater generates an error
Do not disconnect the device until the status changes from "Updating" to Update Successfully Finished"
When the FW update is successfully full, close the updater and run the SetDateTime program by double-clicking the executable SetDateTime.exe
This program runs quickly, it is good when it looks like nothing has happened.
Now you have successfully upgraded the AMV2 Prototype.
Known issues:
The calibration of the green tile may fail after the update. A new Firmware version is being created to fix this issue. Please note that the firmware update in this manual is mandatory for future FW updates.
