Modern browsers are getting stricter about security, and one of the latest changes you might notice is a prompt asking whether a website is allowed to access devices on your local network. If you’re using MIXIT Cloud together with the Instrument Manager Windows app, you’ll see this message sooner or later.
Here’s what’s going on—minus the technical headaches.
Why didn’t we have to do this before?
Local network access was always involved behind the scenes. For MIXIT Cloud to communicate with the Instrument Manager app on your PC, the browser has to reach a small service running locally.
In the past, browsers simply allowed this by default. Convenient? Yes. Secure? Not really.
Today’s browsers block that access unless you explicitly grant it to a specific domain—ours in this case. That change makes the web safer overall, because random sites can’t poke around your local network unless you say so.
Can Instrument Manager run without local network access?
Unfortunately, no.
Instrument Manager and MIXIT Cloud work together as a team: the cloud service must communicate with the Windows app to send and receive data to the connected device, such as the label printer, scale, and spectrophotometer.

If your browser isn’t allowed to reach your local network, that communication can’t happen. Once you grant access, everything works as before.
Is this less secure? Actually, it’s more secure.
The new browser rules are designed to protect you. Instead of giving all websites the ability to reach local devices, you now specifically permit trusted websites like www.mixitcloud.com
By approving MIXIT Cloud specifically, you’re tightening security compared to the old situation, where every site had the same access automatically. In other words: you have more control, not less.
What you’ll need to do
When your browser asks whether to allow local network access for the MIXIT Cloud domain, confirm the prompt once. After that, you’re set—Instrument Manager will continue working normally.
