Microsoft will end support for Windows 10 on 14 October 2025.
The system becomes more vulnerable to viruses, malware and other threats as Microsoft no longer provides new security patches.
Although MIXIT will continue to run under Windows 10 for some time, we recommend switching to Windows 11 as soon as possible.
Without updates, security vulnerabilities could be exploited, which could potentially be a risk to data.
How do I know which Windows version I have?
The easiest way is to have a look at the Start menu button in your taskbar.
- If it is white and looks like this, you most likely have Windows 10 or Windows 8.1 on your machine:
- If it is blue and looks like this, you already have Windows 11 - this is great!:
If you want to know more details about the installed Windows version on your PC, you can also click on the Start menu button or the Search icon, type in "winver" and hit the [Enter] key. A new window will open with all the details.
If my PC is running on an older Windows version, how do I upgrade to Windows 11?
- You can check for a new Windows version via Windows updates. To do so, you click on the Start menu button or the Search icon, type in "Windows updates" and hit the [Enter] key. Or you can simply click on this link.
A new window will open, where you can click on "Check for updates". After some while, Windows will show you if any updates are found. In most cases, you either will also be offered to install Windows 11 (Picture 1 below) and start the upgrade - or you will get the message, that your PC is not compatible with Windows 11.

Picture 2 - You cannot upgrade to Windows 11: - If you do not get any of the above results, you can also download and run the software "PC Health Check" from Microsoft: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/windows-11#pchealthcheck
